Origin of the Summit

The Swiss RNA Therapeutics Summit connects experts from academia, biotechnology, pharma, manufacturing, government and regulatory bodies to drive exchange and collaboration across the rapidly evolving RNA therapeutics landscape. It also creates opportunities for companies to engage with early-career researchers and future professionals.

The Idea Of The Workshop Was Born After A Panel Discussion On “RNA Drugs: Applications Beyond Vaccines” At The Swiss Biotech Day In May 2022 In Basel. The Swiss RNA Therapeutics Summit Was For The First Edition A Joint Initiative Of The National Center Of Competence In Research (NCCR) “RNA & Disease: The Role Of RNA In Disease Mechanisms” And The Swiss Biotech Association. Since The Second Edition, The NCCR RNA & Disease Is The Organization Powering The RNA Therapeutics Summit.

First Swiss RNA Therapeutics Summit – January 2023

The first Swiss RNA Therapeutics Summit took place on 26 January 2023 at the University of Bern and was co-organised with the Swiss Biotech Association.

The event brought together more than 180 participants from academia, industry and other sectors.

The programme featured opening remarks by Christian Leumann, Rector of the University of Bern and an expert in oligonucleotide chemistry, as well as keynote lectures by Mustafa Diken, Vice President of Vaccines & Immunology at BioNTech, and Shalini Andersson, Vice President of Oligonucleotide Discovery at AstraZeneca. Panel discussions and company presentations complemented the scientific programme.

The inaugural Summit was made possible through the collective support and commitment of its sponsors, partners, speakers, organisers and participants.

Second Swiss RNA Therapeutics Summit – January 2024

The second Swiss RNA Therapeutics Summit took place on 25 January 2024 in Bern and was fully booked, welcoming more than 200 registered participants. Opening remarks were delivered by Hugues Abriel, Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Bern.

The keynote programme featured Paul Nioi, Senior Vice President of Research at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, speaking on siRNA therapies for neurological diseases, and Martin Jinek, Professor at the University of Zurich and co-discoverer of CRISPR, presenting on CRISPR genome editing.

The success of the second Summit reflected the dedication and valuable contributions of its sponsors, partners, speakers, organisers and participants.
